Lockerbie: Well done SNP.

On a choice that makes my stomach turn. You probably realise what I'm talking about.

My opinion was that I'd always support the SNP (Scottish Nationalist Party) until we gain independence, then switch immediately to the SSP (Scottish Socialist Party) the moment we're out of the UK. In light of the recent incident, I have two main thoughts: Firstly, thank holy fucking hell we have the referendum coming up in 2010, before the SNP can be voted out.

Secondly, what the hell kind of an idiot releases someone that was found guilty of a terrorist act to their home country on compassionate leave until they die before the penal system has let him repent?! You realise what this means?! It means we now have a terrorist who only has three months left to live and potentially a nation's worth of weaponry. What the hell, kenny?!*

While I understand that we're still working under laws chosen by westminster (having only been under the SNP for around a year) which say that someone who has three months or less to live should be let free on compassionate grounds, the SNP could still exorcise a little common sense. The Justice Minister should still have the power to over-ride that law in the interests of security and the SNP as a whole should still have the power to mend the law to prevent situations like this. Don't you think people who are more likely to use their last days wreaking havoc than comfort their loved ones should be exempt from this? I mean the least (and I mean the least) that could have been arranged is an armed guard or something.

Jesus fuck...

*Kenny MacAskill, the justice minister who chose to let him go.

EDIT: Whether or not he is believed to be guilty is irrelevant, he was found guilty, and is officially guilty for all purpose - and should be treated as such. If they believe he's innocent, they should have called a re-trial. To free someone that the justice minister thinks was innocent or repentant that was found guilty and hadn't served his time yet is twisting the course of justice. I don't really care if it was compassionate leave - considering that fact that the official position is "he killed 270 people, and emotionall damaged well over a thousand people", do you really think he's worthy of compassionate leave, or of compassion in general?
